What is Recognitioning?
Recognitioning is a brain fitness program designed to meet the needs of adults concerned about memory and other aspects of cognitive health and wellness.
When individuals are able to function better they feel better about themselves.
Recognitioning involves a process of engaging people where they are, interest-wise, and taking the time to establish trust. Realistic and meaningful goals are then set with outcomes of experiencing value, meaning and improved quality of life.
Recognitioning can be personalized for individuals. The interests, histories and needs of each individual are integrated into a personalized format. Attention is paid to creating a balance between novel and familiar stimulation. Too much familiarity can produce boredom, and the over-simulating outcome of too much novelty or challenge can be overwhelming and off-putting. The right balance invokes positive engagement and a sense of vitality.
I am able to offer individual home visits, office visits (my office is accessible for people with physical disabilities), or visits to assisted living settings, and I am able to offer care-giver training.
I also created Recognitioning to be used in group settings with specific program content designed for groups in independent living, assisted living and memory care communities. The content utilizes games, music, rhythm and sound, movement, touch, memory and socialization skills, and allows for individualized needs to be met in a group setting.
